چکیده

Photometric and spectroscopic observations of the candidate cataclysmic variable KUV03580+0614, independently found from the Hamburg survey as HS 0357+0614, reveal this to be a cataclysmic variable with an orbital period of 3.4 hrs. CVs with periods in this range are usually novalikes belonging to the SW Sex or Intermediate Polar categories. The variability, spectroscopic characteristics and the lack of strong X-rays indicate a system similar to V795 Her, LS Peg and AH Men. Subject headings: cataclysmic variables — stars:individual (KUV03580+0614) — spectroscopy:stars — photometry:stars Based on observations with the Apache Point Observatory (APO) 3.5m telescope, which is owned and operated by the Astrophysical Research Consortium (ARC)

Spectroscopy and orbital periods of four cataclysmic variable stars

We present spectroscopy and orbital periods Porb of four relatively little-studied cataclysmic variable stars. The stars and their periods are: AF Cam, Porb = 0.324(1) d (the daily cycle count is slightly ambiguous); V2069 Cyg (= RX J2123.7+4217), 0.311683(2) d; PG 0935+075, 0.1868(3) d; and KUV 03580+0614, 0.1495(6) d. V2069 Cyg and KUV 03580+0614 both show HeII λ4686 emission comparable in st...

The Ultra - Compact Binary Candidate Kuv 23182 + 1007 Is a Bright

KUV 23182+1007 was identified as a blue object in the Kiso UV Survey in the 1980s. Classification-dispersion spectroscopy showed a featureless continuum except for a strong emission line in the region of He II 4686Å. This is a hallmark of the rare AM CVn class of cataclysmic variable star, so we have obtained a high-S/N blue spectrum of this object to check its classification. Instead, the spec...

Dwarf KUV 02196 + 2816 : A New Unresolved DA + DB Degenerate Binary

A spectroscopic analysis of the DBA (or DAB) white dwarf KUV 02196+2816 is presented. The observed hydrogen and helium line profiles are shown to be incompatible with model spectra calculated under the assumption of a homogeneous hydrogen and helium chemical composition. In contrast, an excellent fit to the optical spectrum of KUV 02196+2816 can be achieved if the object is interpreted as an un...

On the new short orbital period cataclysmic variable H α 0242 - 2802 ⋆

We present results from our phase-resolved spectroscopy of the newly identified cataclysmic variable Hα0242-2802. Hα0242-2802 was identified from a deep UK Schmidt Hα-R band survey as a candidate cataclysmic variable. Although initial spectroscopy revealed an optical spectrum very similar to that of the famous short orbital period system WZ Sge, the analysis of our data shows that this is not t...

We present low resolution optical spectroscopy for six cataclysmic variable candidates and the old nova V888Cen. We confirm the classification as cataclysmic variable for LB 9963 and FQMon, while the other four candidates turn out to be different type of stars. We discuss the individual spectra and pay special attention to the mass transfer rate and disc temperature and density of the three cat...
